An art installation involved dozens of pairs of shoes was brought to Northallerton, to highlight domestic abuse.
Each pair of shoes represented one of the 100 women killed in the UK each year by their ex or current partner.
The poignant art installation, In Her Shoes, was created by artist Mim Robson, who selected footwear made from different fabrics and materials to represent the diversity of people affected by domestic violence. It was commissioned by Yorkshire’s domestic abuse charity, the Independent Domestic Abuse Service (IDAS).
A spokesperson for IDAS said two women a week are murdered by abusive partners and ex-partners.
The exhibition first went on display in the Minster’s South Piazza on Tuesday, November 27, just after the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, as part of a 16-day campaign to raise awareness of gender-based violence.
The art installation arrived in Northallerton on Wednesday, November 28.
