The Wensleydale Railway has appealed for information following vandalism at the line’s Leeming Bar station.

Railway volunteers have blamed children for the damage to coaches at the site.

They posted photos of the vandalism on social media.

They said: “1st week of the school holidays and the kids have already broken into the coaches at Leeming Bar.

“The railway is run by volunteers and thousands of man hours a year goes into keeping the railway running.

“In less than one week these children have caused unnecessary damage and wasted important man hours as well as damaging property that can not be replaced.”

The heritage line has suffered a number of incidents of vandalism and thefts in recent years.

Earlier this month, volunteers issued an appeal for information after thieves broke into a building at Leeming Bar and stole equipment.

Other incidents have seen carriages daubed in graffiti and the railway bridge at Morton-on-Swale damaged.

If anyone has information about the incident please contact the Wensleydale Railway on 01677 425805.
