A junior football club has issued an appeal for information after a quad bike was driven over their pitches causing significant damage.
The incident happened at pitches used by Brompton Juniors FC at Brompton Playing Fields in Station Road at about 5.45pm on Saturday.
Two passengers on a red quad were seen to enter the car park and then ride onto the pitches.
They spent around seven minutes and caused major damage.
The driver was wearing a green jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with a face covering and hooded top underneath the jacket.
The passenger had a black puffa-style jacket, tracksuit bottoms and wellies on.
A red Ford Fiesta and a white Fiat Punto were also seen in the car park at the same time.
The football club said in a statement: “The rectification work will no doubt be very costly due to the amount of damage that has been caused to the pitches, resulting in no football being played on Sunday and future games looking to be cancelled.
“The full extent of the damage is still not fully known as further wet weather due this week will only compound the devastation.”
The club said the pitches were used by more than 200 adults and children aged three years and upwards on a weekly basis “providing a valuable green space to let children play a great team sport with their friends and club mates”.
“This emotionally and financially hurt the club and the pavilion which serves as a community hub including a cafe on matchdays.”
The incident has been reported to North Yorkshire Police and CCTV footage passed to officers.
The club ask if anyone has any further information or doorbell, dash-cam or CCTV footage that was witness to this vandalism to contact the club via Facebook or email bromptonjuniorsfc@hotmail.com.
Information can also be reported to police on 101 by quoting reference number NYP-13032023-0458.
