Appeal after children injured in hit-and-run on A61

Police are appealing for information after two children were injured in a hit-and-run collision on the A61.

The crash occurred at about 4.50pm on Tuesday, December 17 on the A61 Carlton Road, between Thirsk and Sandhutton.

The incident happened near the junction outside Toad Hall.

Police say a grey Mercedes, carrying two young children, was struck from behind by a Ford Transit tipper vehicle as it slowed to turn right at the junction.

The tipper vehicle did not stop at the scene.

The collision caused damage to the Mercedes and resulted in minor injuries to the children.

A police spokesperson said: “While we have since identified the driver of the tipper vehicle, we are appealing for any dashcam footage or CCTV footage that could assist in the investigation.”
