Shepherds Purse Cheeses is celebrating after six of its artisan range were awarded medals at the prestigious British & Irish Cheese Awards.

The family-run company, which produce a range of handcrafted creamy blue and soft white cheeses from their farm near Thirsk, took home Gold for their Harrogate Blue, Yorkshire Blue, Bluemin White and Buffalo Blue cheeses, as well as a further 2 Silver medals for their Northern Blue and Mediterranean style Mrs Bell’s Salad Cheese.

Showcasing over 500 entries from cheesemakers throughout England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the Awards are held in high regard within the industry, with each entry meticulously judged by a range of experts to determine the category winners.

Katie Matten, joint managing director at Shepherds Purse, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these results. Our talented team here on the farm work hard to produce exceptional cheese, so to take home 6 awards at such a prestigious event, despite some stiff competition from our fellow cheesemakers in the UK is a terrific achievement.”

The success at the British & Irish Cheese Awards comes after a bumper month of wins for the team, who were also awarded two Golds for Yorkshire Blue and Harrogate Blue and a Silver for Buffalo Blue in the Farm Shop & Deli product awards recently too.

Established in the 1980s by Judy Bell MBE, Shepherds Purse is now run by her two daughters Caroline Bell and Katie Matten.
