Wensleydale Fryer fish and chips trains to return

Leeming Station.

Wensleydale Railway’s fish and chips trains, known as the Wensleydale Fryer, are set to return this year.

The Saturday lunchtime service begins on April 12, with further trains every month from May to October.

The heritage diesel-hauled train will travel from Leeming Bar to Leyburn.

The railway’s volunteer staff will serve food and drinks.

A bar service will also be available. On arrival at Leyburn, passengers will have time for a short comfort break and to stretch their legs before boarding the train for the return journey to Leeming Bar.

The train will depart Leeming Bar at 1.30pm and the journey lasts around two hours.

In addition to fish and chips (cod), there will also be the option of sausage and chips and gluten-free fish and chips.

Nick Keegan, marketing and fundraising manager at Wensleydale Railway, said: “Our Wensleydale Fryer trains proved very popular with customers in 2024.

“It’s great to be able to offer this classic food on board our trains again this year. We expect demand to be high and have already sold all tickets for our April and May dates so early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

“We look forward to welcoming people on board the Wensleydale Fryer soon.”

The cost is £35 per adult and £15 for children and includes the rail ticket. Places are very limited and booking is essential. For more information and to book:
