Wensleydale Railway hosted an evening photo shoot for railway photographers and enthusiasts on Saturday at Leeming Bar Station.
The railway’s recently purchased locomotive, a class 47 diesel, number 47714, was the star of the show.
More than 20 photographers had the opportunity to photograph the locomotive in various locations in and around the station.
The railway purchased the locomotive from The Harry Needle Railroad Company in Derbyshire, and it arrived at Leeming Bar in November.
The event was organised by members of the railway’s diesel traction team and gave the photographers an opportunity to access areas of the railway that are normally closed to the general public.
The funds raised will go towards repairs and repainting of 47714, that are scheduled to start soon.
Nick Keegan, marketing and fundraising manager at Wensleydale Railway, said: “This is the first time in many years that we’ve hosted a photo shoot event at the railway. It was very well supported, and we will certainly consider organising similar events like this again.
“We are grateful to the organisers Tom Robson, Rob Cooper-Williamson and Chris Gee and to everyone who supported this event on a rather cold Burns Night.”
47714 is a British Rail Class 47 or Brush Type 4 diesel.
The design was developed in the 1960s by Brush Traction in Loughborough. 512 class 47 locomotives were built between 1962 and 1968 at Brush’s factory in Loughborough and also the British Railways’ factory in Crewe.
The railway’s 2025 operating season will begin during the February half-term holiday, including starting with its first event of the year, a Valentine’s Day lunch train on 16 February.
Its full running season will start on March 1 and run until October 19.
November and December will see the return of THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Rides.
