BAFTA award winner and comedy star to perform in Northallerton

BAFTA award-winning writer and producer turned poet, Henry Normal and comedy star Nigel Planer will perform at The Forum in Northallerton on Sunday.

Henry and Nigel first toured together in the early 90s and reunited in 2023 when they teamed up their latest spoken word shows to create an evening of poetry and comedy that has been winning over audiences across the country ever since.

This Autumn tour is the first time the pair have taken on a full national tour together bringing poetry to the people and showcasing their newest work as well as more classic material from their back catalogue.

Henry Normal’s career spans over 40 years and includes writing and producing some of the country’s best-loved and critically acclaimed TV programmes and films.

He has toured with his ever-evolving poetry show constantly since retiring from TV and Film production.

In his own distinctive style, Henry’s show finds fun in the familiar, humour in the everyday and poignancy in the pitfalls of modern life.

It is a show about love, life and family that is as deeply moving as it is funny and often both at the same time.  Henry has 15 poetry books in print including the latest collection A Moonless Night.

Nigel Planer is a critically-acclaimed British actor, writer, and musician.

Best known for his roles as Neil in the BBC 1980s comedy The Young Ones and Ralph Filthy in Filthy Rich & Catflap, Nigel will be bringing his lesser-known but just as prolific poetic talent to the stage.

His poetry has been published in the Guardian and in numerous anthologies, as well as the 1997 collection Unlike the Buddha. Nigel has collected his many years of poetic endeavours into one volume called Making Other Plans.
