Police in Thirsk have appealed for information on three burglaries in the town and have urged residents to be vigilant.

The burglaries happened between January 12 and 19 when residential properties on Long Street and Green Lane West were broken into.

In one of the burglaries on Long Street thieves broke-in while the occupant was on holiday.

They returned to find windows smashed and jewellery, cash and electronic goods stolen.

In another break-in on the same street, a house was broken into while it was empty.

On Green Lane West, suspects broke into a property on January 19 and stole aftershave and perfume.

Detective Constable Dave Hunton, said: “We urge residents to remain vigilant and review their home security if necessary.

“At this time of year suspects will use the cover of darkness to commit offences.

“If you have security lights, make sure they are working properly and consider using light-timers or leaving lights on when you are not at home. Let your neighbours know if you are going to be away for any length of time.

“Keep valuables out of sight and keep a record of any high-value or distinctive items such as jewellery or memorabilia, and include photographs in your records.

“Please get in touch if you have any information about the stolen items in the photographs below. Have you been offered them for sale? Do you know where they are now?

“Or have you seen a discarded rucksack like the one in the photograph. some of the items are quite distinctive or hold sentimental value for the owner.  Please get in touch if you can help.”

Anyone who has any information about the burglaries or recalls any suspicious activity in the Long Street or Green Lane West areas of Thirsk is asked to get in touch.

If you have seen the items in the photographs or have been offered them for sale, also contact police straight away.
