A Friarage supporter is to swim 65 miles — the equivalent of Redcar to Bridlington — to raise money for the hospital.
Peter Hunt will embark on the challenge for the Friends of the Friarage charity.
More than £800 has already been pledged.
A spokesperson for the group said: “A long supporter of our charity, Peter swam an amazing two miles across Lake Windemere in summer 2022 to raise funds for Friends of the Friarage.
“This year he’s back, with an even bigger challenge.
“To celebrate Friends of the Friarage’s 65th birthday, Peter will do a 65 mile ‘virtual’ swim of the North Yorkshire Coastline, from Redcar Beach to Bridlington Harbour.
“Help us to get behind Peter in this epic challenge which he will complete between October and December, arriving at Bridlington just in time for Christmas!”
