Firefighters tackle chimney fire after sparks spotted from street

Firefighters were called to a chimney fire at after a passer-by spotted sparks coming from a chimney.

The fire was reported at about 6.30pm last night off Brompton road, Northallerton.

Northallerton and Bedale crews damped down guttering and extinguished the fire both in the hearth and chimney.

The cause is thought to have been an accumulation of soot.

Crew used a salvage sheet, hose reel and chimney kit to deal with the incident, tackling the fire for over an hour.
