Suspected fire was venting oxygen cylinder

Firefighters were called out to a suspected fire this morning which turned out to be an oxygen cylinder which had vented.

The incident on the Dalton Airfield industrial estate was reported at about 4.40am.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Thirsk and Ripon fire crews mobilised following a report from a staff member from another building, who noticed steam or smoke venting from a premises which he hadn’t seen occur before.

“On arrival, this was found to be an oxygen cylinder which had vented off and was now empty.”

The incident was classified as a false alarm with good intent.
