A man has been jailed for controlling behaviour towards his partner.

Samuel Matthew Hammond was also sentenced for sharing a sexual photograph without consent with the intention of causing distress, assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.

The court heard Hammond, 30, of Dale Grove, Leyburn, engaged in controlling behaviour over a six-month period during which time he assaulted his then partner several times.

The police officer was assaulted during an incident in Romanby, Northallerton, on March 2.

Hammond was sentenced to 30 months in prison at York Crown Court on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to three of the charges – controlling behaviour, assaulting a police officer and criminal damage – on the day of the hearing after previously denying the charges.

As well as the custodial sentence, Hammond was ordered to pay compensation of £200 for the criminal damage of his former partner’s phone.
