Three sheep rescued from BMW after crash

Three sheep were rescued from a BMW after a crash last night.

The incident happened at about 10.45pm in Low Field Lane, Scaryingham, near York.

Police contacted the fire service for help after a BMW left the road and came to a stop in a ditch.

The driver of the vehicle had left the scene leaving three sheep in the vehicle, one on the back seat and two in the boot.

Fire crews released the sheep into the safe hands of a neighbouring farmer who offered to look after the sheep overnight before being reunited with their owner today, who had been identified by police.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutters to remove a door to release the sheep.

The crew also used a thermal imaging camera to inspect the surrounding area for any possible casualties.
