Three people arrested after cars destroyed in Northallerton arson attack

Two men and a child have been arrested following an arson attacked in Linden Road in Northallerton.

Two cars, a lean-to and the rendering on a house were damaged in the incident.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at about 1.15am.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Both Northallerton fire crews responded to two vehicles on fire on the driveway of a house, which spread to a 2 story end of terrace, residential property.

“Crews used two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two thermal imaging cameras, spreaders, and a hooligan tool to deal with the incident.

“The fire caused 100% fire damage to a Citroen van, 80% fire damage to a Peugeot 508, 100% fire damage to a lean to, and 2m by 2m of fire damage to rendering on the exterior of the property.

“All occupants were out of the property on arrival of the fire service. The cause was deliberate.”

A 15-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man have been on suspicion of arson.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson and possession of a what is suspected to be a class B drug.

They currently remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Jill Cowling from Northalleton CID said: “This incident could have had very serious consequences. Thankfully on this occasion nobody was seriously injured.

“As part of the ongoing police investigation I’m now appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.

“Local residents should expect to see increased patrols in the local area over the next few days as a way of reassurance to the local community.

“I would urge anyone who has any concerns to speak to a officer”.
