Firefighters deal with suspected vehicle fires and power cable blaze

Firefighters in Hambleton dealt with suspected vehicle fires and a power cable blaze yesterday.

A crew from Northallerton responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in Northallerton High Street at about 2.30pm.

Firefighters found the vehicle with a small amount of smoke coming from the exhaust.

Crews carried out a thermal scan of the vehicle and confirmed no signs of fire.

They left the vehicle with the owner and advised for a mechanic to check the vehicle over before using it again.

At 2.50pm, crews from Bedale and Northallerton responded to a report of a fire to a power cable leading into farmers’ sheds in Carthorpe, near Bedale.

Firefighters located the affected wires and confirmed that the fire was out.

They then stood by until engineers from the electricity board arrived and the incident was handed over to them.

At about 4.50pm, fire crews from Bedale and Northallerton attended a report of a wagon wheel on fire on the A6055 at Londonderry.

Crews located the vehicle and found that the fire was out.

They cooled the wheel and monitored for further heat spread., before leaving the vehicle in the hands of the owner.
