The Friends of the Friarage is seeking people who share their passion for the hospital to join the charity as new trustees.

Former and current patients and their families, NHS staff, or local residents who value the hospital and want to contribute towards making a difference to the community, could all be potential trustees, charity leaders say.

The Friarage is currently undergoing a major expansion with a new £35 million surgical unit.

Friends of the Friarage are committed to ensuring that local people can receive the best care as close to home as possible by raising funds to enhance health services.

Trustees play an important role in governing the charity, contributing expertise and ideas and in return gain a sense of satisfaction from helping a local cause.

There are currently seven serving trustees for the charity, who current leaders says offer a “friendly and supportive culture to individuals who have no previous experience as a trustee but who feel they want to contribute”.

The charity is particularly seeking expressions of interest from people who have a background in either retail, fundraising, legal or finance but are interested to hear from people of all ages and backgrounds to ensure ideas and views are heard from all sectors of the community.

The trustees typically meet once a quarter as well as helping with other meetings or events on an ad-hoc basis.

Co-chair Antony Walters said: “As the hospital continues to grow and the charity looks ahead to its next 65 years of support we have ambitions to further support the hospitals’ development and ‘open new doors’. It’s an ideal time to welcome new trustees.

“We look forward to hearing from people to discuss how we might work together for the Friarage Hospital into the future’.

As a well-established charity, the Friends of the Friarage has raised over £5 million pounds over the past 65 years through the support of the community.

Donations go directly to the hospital to benefit the patients and staff of the Friarage.

In recent years the charity has donated £500,000 towards the purchase of an MRI scanner, created an on-site academic centre that trains medical professionals of the future, established a dialysis unit based at the Friarage as well as helping to purchase other state-of-the-art technology to enhance patient care.
