A new hospice is taking shape as a local charity runs a fundraising initiative aiming to raise £300,000 in 36 hours to support completion of the build.
The project to bring inpatient care and emotional wellbeing support to people in Thirsk, Northallerton, Stokesley, Richmond and across Hambleton and Richmondshire is being led by local charity Herriot Hospice Homecare.
Herriot Hospice@The Lambert, Thirsk, will offer six inpatient rooms, suites for emotional wellbeing and bereavement support, as well as a spacious and welcoming community hub and a base for the charity’s fast-growing HOME team.
It will cost more than £1.7m to transform the former Lambert Memorial Hospital to a fit-for-the-future space for local families, and individuals, groups and organisations have already shown incredible support to help the charity on its way to reaching its goal.
Now, as the fundraising appeal enters its final phase, Herriot is running an innovative campaign, urging the community to Make our Local Hospice Happen.
Make our Local Hospice Happen take place from 7am on Sunday and runs until 7pm today, aiming to raise £300,000 in just 36 hours, with all donations during this time doubled.
The campaign sees local people from across our community sign up as champions, hosting their own fundraising page within a dedicated appeal site. Throughout this time, every pound that pours into champions’ pages will be doubled in real time thanks to a generous group of match-funders.
Herriot is calling for champions to sign up now to be part of this historic appeal.
Chief executive of Herriot, Tony Collins, said: “Herriot Hospice@The Lambert is your local hospice, and completing the project takes all of us as a community.
“We’re therefore incredibly excited to unveil this unique event, where everyone can get involved and see the impact of their fundraising doubled.
“Being a champion is simple, straightforward and with this first-of-its-kind event for Herriot, promises to be fun and incredibly rewarding.
“We’re grateful that our community has been here alongside us every step of the way, and we know that, together, we can continue driving this very special project forward to open doors this year and offer the services so many in our community need, want and deserve.”
Encouraging champions to sign up as soon as possible, Tony said: “Our campaign team will do the hard work for you – from setting up your fundraising page to offering wording you can use to let people know about the project and how they can support.
“All champions need to do is spread the word to family and friends when the campaign goes live on Sunday July 2, inspiring as many people in our community to be part of this momentous event by donating what they can.”
“We warmly invite everyone to join us online on July 2nd and 3rd to show their support as we race towards our £300,000 target.”
