A popular sports club is flushed with success after a grant from Broadacres helped them complete the latest phase of ambitious redevelopment work.
The refurbishment of ladies and gents’ washrooms is the final phase in the development of the function room at Bedale Sports Club and Community Centre.
The centre and surrounding courts and pitches is a focal point for people of all ages from the Bedale area both as a meeting place and as a home for football, cricket, croquet, squash, tennis and running clubs.
The recent extension and refurbishment of the Adrian Grayson Function Room provides a sparkling venue for receptions, evening events and other gatherings but also highlighted by comparison the dilapidated state of the forty-year-old toilets.
Now though, visitors will be bowled over by the gleaming new washrooms paid for by volunteer fundraising, including a grant from the Broadacres Community Development Fund.
The first event following completion of the toilet refurbishment was a black-tie dinner for 80 organised by Chairman of Bedale AFC Martyn Coombs.
He said: “The feedback received on the new look centre has been excellent and included very positive comments about the smart new washrooms.
“A number of people who use the centre and sports facilities are Broadacres residents and without this grant we would have really struggled to pay for everything.”
The Broadacres Community Development Fund supports local organisations, groups, and projects in areas where Broadacres has homes. All grants are approved by the Association’s own residents, via a Community Development Fund Panel.
Broadacres resident Mags Crook, who is on the Panel, said: “It’s great that so many Broadacres, and the wider community, are benefiting, from these improvements to a much-used local facility in the heart of Bedale.”
