Hambleton villages benefit from council cash

Two villages have received over £10,500 from Hambleton District Council’s Making a Difference Fund to help improve their communities.

Following a village survey, Aldwark Area Parish Council realised that children under the age of six were not catered for by their play existing equipment.

With their grant of £6809 they have added a new team swing, slide, combined den/climbing frame and safety flooring to make sure the area is now suitable for children of all ages and abilities, including those from neighbouring villages.

In Tholthorpe, the £3,738 received by Tholthorpe Follies has replaced old stage lighting and seen the installation of a permanent sound system in the village hall.

This will not only improve the group’s own productions but help visiting shows – which will boost and enhance activities in the village.

The events in the village hall are a lifeline not only for those in Tholthorpe but also in neighbouring communities.

Councillor Mark Robson, leader of Hambleton District Council, said: “Many families are facing social isolation in villages as a result of poor transportation links and a lack of facilities.

“These two projects are great examples of how council cash can be fed back into the community it serves to make a direct and real difference however big or small.”
