Large field fire started deliberately, says fire service

A large field fire near Stokesley was started deliberately, says North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS).

A fire crew from Stokesley was called to the incident at 5pm yesterday near Hilton Road, Seamer.

After arriving they requested assistance from colleagues from Cleveland Fire and Rescue Service.

A NYFRS spokesperson said: “Coulby Newham and Thornaby crews attended and they worked together to tackle a fire to a stubble field measuring around 150m x 200m.

“Crews used four hose reels and beaters to tackle and extinguish the fire.

“The cause is thought to have been deliberate.”
