Firefighters were called out yesterday after a pile of manure spontaneously combusted.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it attended the incident at Pepper Arden, near Northallerton, at 5.45pm after receiving a call from a worried motorist.
The manure heap measuring around 25m by 10m.
A spokesperson said: “Following a call from a concerned motorist, Northallerton crew responded to a report of a large pile of manure smouldering at the side of the road near to cut crop field.
“Water applied and will be revisited this morning.
“Cause – spontaneous combustion.”
