A man has been arrested for drink driving in Thirsk after police were alerted by door staff.
Door staff at a licensed premises in Thirsk alerted police to a man who was about to drive home after drinking a large amount of alcohol on Saturday night.
North Yorkshire Police said traffic officers acted quickly and stopped the vehicle.
Police say the driver smelt strongly of alcohol and a roadside breath test recorded a result of 95mg/100ml, which is more than double the legal limit.
He was arrested and taken to police custody where he provided a further two breath samples and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was released on bail and will be appearing at court in due course.
A police spokesperson said: “Drink driving is incredibly dangerous and not to mention illegal.
“Whether you’re driving 100 miles or just down the road, driving under the influence of alcohol puts many lives at risk and we know only too well how devastating it can be.
“If you suspect someone is about to drive after consuming alcohol, or you spot a vehicle you think maybe driven by somewhere under the influence, please call us on 999 so we can respond quickly.
“Thank you to the door staff who alerted us to this man and helped us keep our roads safe.”
