The public has been urged not to have barbecues or fires in the open amid continuing concerns over wild fires.
It comes after firefighters were called out on Wednesday night to reports of two fires in the open at Cod Beck Reservoir near Osmotherley.
A crew from Northallerton located one fire caused by an improvised barbecue which they extinguished using buckets of water from the reservoir.
Crews then searched the area for the second reported fire but were only able to locate the remnants of a previous fire which was out.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service chiefs (NYFRS) say the risk of wildfires is particularly great in areas such as the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales.
Temporary Crew Manager Craig Austin said the barbecue pictured was found at Cod Beck Reservoir this week.
He added: “It was besides some very dry vegetation that luckily had not been ignited by this.
“Such actions are highly irresponsible with the current weather conditions and put a very big strain on the service’s resources across the whole of North Yorkshire.”
On Tuesday NYFRS declared a major incident due to the demand on its services.
This include a large stubble fire at Breckinborough near Thirsk, which was attended by more than 30 firefighters.
Northallerton Fire Station is holding an open day this Saturday between 10am and 3pm. 1 There will be various fire safety stands, an RTC demonstration, vintage fire engine, ice cream van and a car wash. All welcome.
