A housebuilder has helped the relaunch of a Northallerton boxing club by donating £500 to refurbish the kitchen and purchase new equipment.

Northallerton Amateur Boxing Club aims to support people of all ages within its community by opening its doors up and offering fitness and competition.

The club has been running for over 10 years, but in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic its gym at The Forum became a vaccination centre.

The gym reopened its doors at its new location in the centre of Northallerton last month.

Thanks to the financial support of a range of local backers including Taylor Wimpey, owners Joanna Gatenby and Adrian Coe are looking forward to moving through 2022 stronger than ever.

Adrian Coe, head coach at the Northallerton Boxing Club, said: “We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their generous donation which will allow us to purchase headguards, gloves and bags and enable us to complete the kitchen area which will allow us to provide much needed refreshments.

“The club hopes to encourage and support local people of all ages to engage in physical exercise.

“Although the club is predominantly a boxing club it also opens its doors to individuals who just want to keep fit, build self-esteem or make friends.”

Taylor Wimpey is building new homes in Northallerton at its Williams Heath development in Darlington Road.

Steven Ball, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, said: “When we heard about the boxing gyms’s commitment to supporting the local community through exercise we knew this was something we wanted to be involved in.

“What Joanne and Adrian hope to achieve reflects what Taylor Wimpey is about. Aiming to support the lives of those within our community and bring those people closer together.

“We all know especially during these difficult times how much getting out and exercising can impact our physical and mental health, which is what makes supporting organisations such as this so vital.”
