Free festive parking will start tomorrow in Hambleton’s district council-owned car parks.
Free parking starts on December 1 in all district council run car parks and lasts throughout the festive season.
Car parking charges are suspended in Northallerton, Thirsk, Stokesley and Bedale until 3 January. Parking is already free in Great Ayton and Easingwold.
Councillor Mark Robson, leader of Hambleton District Council said: “We hope this will encourage people to shop in the district’s market towns in the build up to Christmas and support local businesses as they emerge from the pandemic.
“These past couple of years has been tough for everyone and the council wants to do all it can to support residents and businesses.
“We are also urging residents to not only shop local, but also to make use of the local restaurants and cafes as well as coming along to the various festive events going on across the district throughout December.”
The free festive parking will apply to over 900 car parking bays across the district council’s car parks, with the council encouraging the use of the time limits in place in dedicated ‘short stay only’ car parks.
A two-hour time limit still applies at the Market Place in Thirsk
The district council no longer manages Crosby Road car park in Northallerton -therefore this car park is not subject to free parking.
