The chair of North Yorkshire County Council has joined communities from across the UK in a project to plant trees to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Councillor Stuart Martin has shown his backing of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative by planting a tree on County Hall grounds in Northallerton, which is soon to be accompanied by a commemorative plaque.
“I am delighted to lead the County Council in supporting the Plant a Tree for the Jubilee project which aims to provide a legacy for future generations to enjoy whilst helping to tackle climate change,” said Councillor Martin.
“Whether you have space for individual saplings or can accommodate large woodland projects, anybody can get involved.”
Individuals, schools, parishes, community groups, villages, towns, cities and businesses are being encouraged to plant trees through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.
Support is available to anyone who would like to take part, from help and advice about tree planting to tangible support such as over three million free saplings being made available to schools and community groups.
