A684 closes at Crakehall for resurfacing work

A full resurfacing of the A684 through Crakehall is underway, with the road shut for more than two weeks while the work is carried out.

North Yorkshire County Council highways teams is carrying out the work along the 30mph speed limit section of the A684 through Little and Great Crakehall.

The work is being financed by the Department for Transport’s Safer Roads Fund.

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for access, said: “We are pleased to be delivering safety improvement projects to the sum of £7.06m on the A684 from Leeming Bar to Junction 37 of the M6.

“It was one of four successful bids chosen for road safety improvements as part of the Government’s Safer Roads Fund, which seeks to address issues on the 50 A-roads identified as being the most dangerous in the country.”

The scheme will begin on Monday, October 11 and is expected to last for up to two and a half weeks.

Due to the nature of resurfacing works the A684 in both directions will be closed during working hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm each day.

On-site personnel will manage access to properties and businesses within the closure however there may be extended periods of time when access is not possible.

Advance warning signs and a signed diversion will be in place.

Councillor John Weighell OBE, member for the Bedale division, said: “This resurfacing scheme represents a huge investment in improving the infrastructure of this busy A road. I’m sure residents and businesses will welcome the improvements it will bring.

“We are restricting the work to off-peak hours to minimise disruption as much as possible, however we realise it will be an inconvenience for many.

“Resurfacing is weather dependant so if there are any changes to the schedule we will inform the public as soon as possible.

“We have liaised with those in the local community who will be affected and ask for patience as the works are being carried out.”
