Residents are being encouraged to find out more about North Yorkshire’s successful on-demand bus service pilot in the Ripon, Bedale and Masham area.

Officials say that since its launch by North Yorkshire County Council on July 1, the YorBus team has seen a steady growth with 1,017 accounts opened and 726 journeys completed.

Of the users 56 per cent are repeat customers and the average ride rating is 4.9 stars out of 5, based on the users who have chosen to leave feedback via the app.

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for access, said: “We are delighted with the success of YorBus in the short time it has been running – the statistics speak for themselves. It has been very well-received and enhances our existing public transport network.

“As YorBus is a completely new travel concept it will take time to spread the word. We have already held a number of roadshows and more will take place on Tuesday, August 17, to encourage people to make use of the service and answer any questions people have.”

The roadshows are being held on August 17 at the following locations and times:

  • Bedale Market Place: 9am to 10.30am
  • Well bus shelter: 11am to 12noon
  • Snape village hall: 12.30pm to 1.30pm
  • West Tanfield village hall: 2pm to 3pm
  • North Stainley, old garage forecourt: 3.30pm to 4.30pm

YorBus allows users to choose when and where they want to travel via a dedicated app which has been created by Via, the leader in TransitTech.

Once a desired pick-up and drop-off location has been selected, riders are directed to a nearby bus stop. The mobile app allows passengers to plan and track their bus journey, even when on-board.

The service runs from 6.55am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays. There is a flat fare for using the service; £1.20 for adults and 65p for children between the ages of 5-17.

Customers can choose to pay with card or cash on the bus. Children under 5 can travel for free and concessionary bus passes can be used on the service, subject to existing Terms and Conditions.

YorBus is fully accessible, with low floor access and a ramp access for users of wheelchairs, pushchairs and those with mobility difficulties.
