The owners of the Bilsdale transmitter which caught fire yesterday have not given a timeframe for when TV and radio services in the region will be restored.
The fire at the mast near Helmsley has disrupted Freeview, DAB and FM radio signals for up to a million people across the region.
Owners of the mast, Arqiva, have confirmed that nobody was injured by the fire and thanked emergency services “for their swift action”.
The company added in a statement issued this afternoon: “We have started the process to gradually restore services using a combination of temporary structures and existing infrastructure elsewhere in the region, and will be moving through this process as quickly and safely as possible.
“We will continue to share updates as we have them.”
A spokesperson for Freeview said: “There is continued disruption to services for viewers in NE England due to the fire at Bilsdale transmitter.
“If affected you can also watch Freeview on some connected Freeview Play TV’s and also via our mobile app or on a web browser via our online TV Guide.”
The 315m tower was built in 1969 and provides coverage for homes across North Yorkshire, Teesside and County Durham.
More than 500,000 homes and a million people have been affected by the blaze.
