A Stokesley man has been charged with his brother’s murder.
Samual Campbell, 24, died in an incident in Sunderland in the early hours of Friday.
Samuel’s brother William, 25, of Allen Court, Stokesley, was arrested at the scene and earlier today he was charged with murder.
Northumbria Police said they were alerted by the ambulance shortly after 1am on Friday to a report of an assault having in Park Avenue in the Silksworth area of the city.
A police spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended and found a 24-year-old man who had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, consistent with a stabbing.
“Sadly, despite attempts to save his life, he died at the scene.
“His family have continued to be supported by specialist officers and we can now confirm his identity as Samuel Campbell.”
The accused appeared at a remand court sitting at Newcastle Crown Court where he was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on Tuesday.
The spokesperson added: “This continues to be a devastating time for the Campbell family and we are doing everything we can to ensure they have access to support.
“They are finding it very difficult to come to terms with what has happened and we would ask you to respect their privacy while we conduct our enquiries.
“This incident has taken place at their family home and we want to reassure residents in the area, and the wider community, that there is no risk to the public.”
A cordon remains in place at the address on Park Avenue and police say they will continue to carry out patrols in the area so that any concerned residents can ask us any questions they may have.
