York Magistrates' Court.

A Bedale man has been slapped with a two-year restraining order for sending over 100 abusive text messages.

Alastair Burt, 29, sent about 120 menacing or obscene messages to a named man who is now protected by the injunction imposed at York Magistrates’ Court.

Burt, of Alexandra Court, sent the messages from an address in South End, Bedale, on May 21.

He appeared for sentence on Friday after pleading guilty to sending messages by means of a public communication network which were grossly offensive, menacing or obscene in nature.

He received an 18-month community order with a 30-day rehabilitation programme. He was banned from contacting the named victim for a period ending in June 2023.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
