Brompton shot putter Scott Lincoln has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics and will join Northallerton runner Marc Scott at this summer’s games.
The 27-year-old shot putter will be part of Team GB after throwing the qualifying standard while competing in the Czech Republic.
Scott threw a personal best of 21.28m to achieve the distance needed to compete at the games, which are due to be held later this year.
He told BBC Radio York there was “a lot of shouting a, lot of screaming” when he knew he’d qualified.
He added: “I Knew I was in shape, I’d been tensing a lot and getting a bit over-excited about throwing far and that’s when you don’t throw very far.
“It was a matter of learning how to relax a bit more and it started clicking.”
Scott said he knew even before it hit the ground that it was a good throw, although he added: “I didn’t know it was that good.”
The throw was the third best of all time by a British athlete.
Scott will join Northallerton runner Marc Scott at the Tokyo games.
He booked his place by finishing 0.7 seconds clear of Mo Farah at the European 10,000m Cup in Birmingham earlier this month.
