A1(M) closed southbound after incident

The A1(M) is currently closed southbound between junctions 48 and 47 after an incident.

Police are at the scene at the incident between the Boroughbridge and Knaresborough junctions.

Road users are being advised to follow the southbound diversion route following the solid triangle symbol on road signs. 

  • Exit the A1(M) at J48 and proceed to the end of the slip road.
  • At the junction turn left then at the roundabout take the third exit onto the A168 and follow for approx. 7 1/2 miles.
  • At the roundabout take the 5third exit onto the A168 and follow for approx. 1/2 a mile.
  • At the roundabout take the first exit onto the A168 and follow for approx. 2 miles.
  • At the roundabout take the first exit onto the B6164 and follow for approax. 1/2 mile.
  • At the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the slip road to re-join the A1(M) southbound.

A Highways England spokesperson said: “Delays are likely on the approach to the closure, with additional journey times also expected on diversion routes.

“Please allow extra time for your journey if travelling in the area or consider alternative routes.”
