No rest for family-run bed company during lockdown

Family-run Simply Beds had to adapt quickly to the pandemic, but the change has proved worth it.

The company, which has stores in Northallerton, Catterick and Ripon managed to get an online shop live at the start of the first lockdown and has seen major increase in sales as a result.

The company was launched in the 1970s by Robert and Lilian Nemes and is now run by their four children — Nicola, Robert, Ashley and Natalie.

Natalie said: “We each have our own skill sets and bring value to the business in our own ways.

“The tradition of family members within our Simply Beds team even runs through to our staff. Our sales team are sisters and even our delivery team include an uncle and a nephew.”

Ashley describes the siblings jovially as “sleep scientists”.

“We research and design some of our mattress collections. We love getting stuck into the real mechanics of bed manufacturing.”

The company’s new website was launched at the beginning of lock down and has proven to be a huge success, not only with online sales but also bringing in new customers from around the region.

Natalie said: “As like many businesses we are having to adapt the way we run.

“Where we have faced new challenges, we are also finding a positive outcome — the increase in volume of sales is incredible.

“We work hard to continue to grow the business and genuinely care about our customers’ needs and understand how important sleep is and that having a comfortable mattress is key to a having a balanced and healthy lifestyle.”

Natalie added: “We love beds and want to make sure you sleep more comfortably.”
