Across North Yorkshire there have been 410 cases between September 1 and September 16, and 3,168 altogether.

The areas with the highest increase by total include York, Harrogate, Scarborough and Selby.

  • Craven – 42
  • Harrogate – 99
  • Hambleton – 43
  • Ryedale – 13
  • Scarborough – 89
  • Selby – 101

It was announced yesterday that the rise in the Covid-19 infection rate had prompted North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum (NYLRF) to return to its emergency mode.

NYLRF, which includes the emergency services, local authorities and the NHS, warned residents must act now to “save lives, protect jobs and the economy and ensure schools can stay open”.

County Durham, which borders Richmondshire, is one of seven council areas in the North East to see new restrictions imposed which mean residents will not be able to mix with people outside their households and support bubbles.

Pubs will also be told to close early.

  1. I think it’s about time that the government admitted the truth on this. All these alleged cases yet no one in hospital so its just a bad flu virus and its being linked to every death when just because someone has the virus it doesn’t mean that is what killed them
