A Hambleton woman has died after being hit by a speedboat while on holiday.
Claire Glatman, 60, from Well, near Bedale, died in an apparent tragic accident in Corfu on Monday last week.
According to local media reports, mother-of-four Mrs Glatman was swimming in the sea at Avlaki Beach when she was hit by a boat pulling a waterskier.
It is claimed the boat sped off without stopping after the collision.
Mrs Glatman suffered severe injuries and sadly died, despite being rushed to Corfu Hospital.
A coastguard official said: “She lost so much blood from wounds sustained as a result of the propeller hitting her.
“There were wounds to her legs, arms and body.”
It is understood Mrs Glatman was on holiday with husband Mark and one of their daughters on the island, where they own a villa.
She was understood to have been swimming with a friend at the time of the accident.
Three people have been arrested over the death.
They are all young English visitors, according to news reports.
Authorities found a boat suspected of being involved in the tragedy in a small marina on the island.
