Minster FM to end broadcasts

A York radio station which served Northallerton and Thirsk is to shut.

Minster FM, as well as Yorkshire Coast Radio , which served Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington, and Stray FM, which covers Harrogate, will be rebranded as Greatest Hits Radio, offering classic hits from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

The commercial station will end in its current form on Sunday, and Greatest Hits Radio will begin broadcasting on its wavelength from Monday.

The three stations were bought last year by Bauer Media whose existing brands include Absolute Radio, Kiss and Scala.

A Bauer spokesperson said: “It enables the creation of a national network which delivers the optimum mix of local content that listeners highly value alongside content from nationally known presenters, whilst also providing significant scale for advertisers.”
