The tourist information centre (TIC) in Easingwold is the first in the district to be awarded Visit Britain’s We’re Good to Go mark after complying with all the processes needed to be Covid safe.
The mark is the official standard for the tourist industry offering reassurance a business has followed government Covid-19 guidance and has processes in place to maintain cleanliness and observe social distancing guidelines.
Leader of Hambleton District Council, Cllr Mark Robson said: “Not only is Easingwold TIC the first in the district, but is also one of the first in Yorkshire to be accredited with this award.
“Tourism at a local level is really important for Hambleton as we start to recover from Covid-19.
“It is one of the key elements of our evolving economic recovery plan. It’s great to see some of our key tourism venues gaining this mark.”
Kate Buckby, TIC manager and chair of Wold Class Business Network added: “The centre which has recently re-opened after undergoing a full refurbishment, is already seeing an increase in visitors aswell as in the town itself.
“We pride ourselves on providing a useful service to visitors encouraging them to explore the local area and use businesses in the town.
“We are proud to have been awarded the We’re Good to Go mark after all our hard work to get the centre up and running again and complying with requirements.”
Local cafes and coffee shops in Easingwold are also reporting a welcome boost in visitor numbers since lockdown was eased. They are extending their opening hours to meet the increased demand and bringing back staff from furlough.
