300 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Hambleton

New figures show there have been 300 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Hambleton.

Until this week, only the number of pillar one cases, those confirmed in hospitals and in Public Health England labs, were released for local authorities.

The new data includes local pillar two tests — swab testing for the wider population, including care homes and mobile testing stations.

The latest statistics mean local authorities and NHS organisations have a benchmark to work from to assess if there has been a local spike in cases.

The 300 confirmed cases up until 5.40pm on Saturday, July 4 means Hambleton has an infection rate of 329.2 cases per 100,000 people.

In total, North Yorkshire has had 2,513 confirmed cases, giving a rate of 408.9 cases per 100,000 people.

The cases and rates for other North Yorkshire districts are:

  • Craven – 245 cases and a rate of 431.1
  • Richmondshire – 266 cases and a rate of 499.6
  • Harrogate – 697 cases and a rate of 434.2
  • Ryedale – 133 cases and a rate of 242.2
  • Selby – 311 cases and a rate of 349.0
  • Scarborough – 561 cases and a rate of 515.9

There have been 899 cases in York, giving a rate of 428.3.

The national average for England is 437.7 cases per 100,000.

The data reveals that the North-East, the North-West, and Yorkshire and the Humber have the highest infection rates in England.

Hambleton Today revealed earlier this week that there had revealed a spike in the number of people with Covid-19 dying in Hambleton.

Figures released this week by the Office for National Statistics show that 69 people from the district have passed away after testing positive for the virus.

The figures revealed that there was a decline in the number of deaths in April and through May, but there has been an increase in the most recent weeks.

Of the 69 deaths so far recorded in Hambleton, 41 were in hospitals, 24 were in care homes, three were at home and one was in a hospice.
