Motorist stopped on A19 and fined for picking up paint

A van driver was fined for breaking Covid-19 movement restrictions after going to pick up paint.

The driver was stopped for speeding on the A19 near Northallerton by officers from North Yorkshire Police’s road policing group.

The motorist said they were travelling from Wakefield to Yarm to pick up some paint for a home DIY project.

In a separate incident, a motorist was arrested on Sunday after testing positive for cannabis and cocaine.

Their vehicle was stopped by officers in Stokesley.
