Hambleton District Council (HDC) has already paid out more than £11 million pounds to businesses affected by the coronavirus.
From Wednesday, March 25, businesses across district have been able to apply for the grants designed to help and support them during the most challenging of times, with an estimated 2,800 businesses eligible.
So far, 1,687 applications have been received with 58 per cent (976) already processed and almost all of these paid out before the weekend.
The council says staff are working hard to get through grant applications as quickly as possible with more grants being paid out every day.
Officials say they anticipate all grants which are straight forward to process, will be paid out by the end of next week.
Councillor Mark Robson, leader of the district council, said: “This is great news for Hambleton’s business community who’ve been hit hard during this crisis.
“I hope it sends out a clear message; your council are behind you and will do everything possible to minimise the impact of Covid-19 on local businesses.
“The team are doing a fantastic job of working through the applications and really appreciate your support and understanding as they work to get through them all as quickly as possible.
“You can help by making sure you have your business rates reference number handy. This can be found on the demand notice posted out on March 12 and will help the team process your application quicker.
“I hope the grants go some way to helping and supporting our local businesses as we work through this unprecedented and challenging time together.”
