A Bedale pub is offering free soup to local elderly residents who have to self-isolate.
Michelle Cooper-Jones, landlady of the White Bear, was watching yesterday’s live press conference from Downing Street when she felt compelled to act.
She said: “I couldn’t help but think about our local pensioners and how worried they must be feeling – it’s not a big thing, soup.
“I’m racking my brains to think of other ways we can help.
The first batch of soup was made yesterday and has a three day life span.
When this runs out, more will be made.
There are also a number of local volunteers who have offered to collect from the pub and deliver to anyone unable to organise collection themselves.
