Fire in Thirsk derelict building was started deliberately, says fir service

The fire service says a fire in a deflect building in Thirsk this morning was started deliberately.

A crew from Thirsk was sent at just after 10am after a report of smoke coming from a building in Newsham Road. 

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the building.

The crew extinguished the blaze using a hose reel, before checking for any further hot spots using a thermal image camera.

“The cause of fire is believed to be deliberate,” a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
