Snow overnight has shut schools and caused problems for motorists across Hambleton this morning.

The emergency services are urging motorists to leave extra time for journeys and make sure they have warm clothing and a shovel.

North Yorkshire County Council says its gritting crews are working hard to keep roads clear.

A spokesperson said: “Priority roads have been treated, with snow ploughs where needed.

“Remember gritting doesn’t guarantee and ice-free surface and will not stop snow landing on the road.

“Please take care when out and about and drive to the conditions. ”

Both Bedale High School and Bedale Primary School say they will be shut for the day.

Others schools shut for the day in Hambleton include:

  • Snape
  • Thornton Watlass
  • Leeming and Londonderry
  • Crakehall
  • Dishforth Airfield
  • Allanbrooke
