A heating issue at M&S in Northallerton which left staff having to wear heavy-duty freezer jackets has been fixed, store bosses say.
Staff at the M&S Food Hall shop say the heating system was broken for more than three weeks over Christmas and into the new year.
It is understood the problem was caused by the boiler and difficulties gaced by contractors trying to obtain a part.
One staff member, who asked not to be named, said: “We had to endure weeks of no heating at work over Christmas due to the boiler packing up.
“There is a minimum temperature that you’re supposed to work in by law but they got round this by providing heavy duty freezer jackets instead of getting the problem solved.”
The worker added: “Staff were really unhappy. It happened last year too and in the summer our
freezers failed because of the heat.”
Andrew Crooks, M&S head of region for M&S North East, said: “The well-being of our team and our customers is our top priority, so we are pleased that the issue with the central heating system at M&S Northallerton has been resolved and is operating as usual.”
