Council staff hand over food parcels to community group

A group of council staff, past and present handed over food and cash to a community partnership which provides emergency food parcels for people who would otherwise have to go hungry.

The group from Hambleton District Council took  part in a knockout competition playing darts and pool at the Oddfellows Arms in Northallerton, organised by district council employee Lynne Richardson with help from landlords Terry and Nicola Taggart.

Staff had to pay to enter and donate an item of food for the food bank.

“As the council heavily supports the Hambleton FoodShare scheme, and with Christmas just around the corner we decided to show our support whilst having fun at the same time,” said Lynne

A raffle held on the evening brought the total donated to £160.

Hambleton FoodShare is a registered charity run almost entirely by local volunteers and relies heavily on fund raising to help them  provide emergency food parcels for people who are in temporary financial crisis and struggling to feed themselves and their families.

This could be because they have lost their job, become incapacitated or the result of a delay in benefit payments.
