A service which helps people who are keen to exercise but find it challenging due to weight or mobility problems has been praised by its users.

In a recent survey a massive 91 per cent of members said that they would actively recommend Northallerton’s toning suite to a friend, colleague or family member.

The suite opened its doors last year,

The ten-station facility includes a range of power assisted machines which are designed for use by anyone, regardless of age, mobility, weight or fitness level.

In particular, users said that they were pleased with the friendly, helpful staff and standard of equipment. Others commented on the relaxed environment whilst 88 per cent said they generally felt better with almost half saying they have improved mobility and can walk further.

Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “These results are really encouraging. Many people use the toning suite to help manage long term conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia, arthritis and asthma.

“The equipment is also ideal for post-stroke treatment and post-operative rehabilitation. Let’s hope we can encourage even more people to take a membership – a free three day pass is available for those who want to try it out first.”
