Public urged to lobby councillors over Friarage Hospital future

Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.

Members of the public have been urged to lobby their county councillors over the future of the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.

Members of North Yorkshire County Council’s scrutiny of health committee will meet on Friday to hear plans for a public consultation into changes at the hospital.

They will hear from officials from Hambleton, Richmondshire & Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group and the South Tees NHS Foundation Trust about the consultation.

Earlier this year, the A&E at the Friarage was replaced by an urgent treatment centre.

However, campaigners want to see the A&E restored at the hospital and say they are concerned for the future of other services at the Friarage.

Holly Wilkinson, from the Save the Friarage Campaign group, said: “This is a golden opportunity for the public of Northallerton and the wider area to make their feelings known and get their voices heard.

“They can also remind councillors that in her message to staff, the outgoing chief executive officer Siobhan McAardle stated that the South Tees NHS Foundation Trust was ‘financially unsustainable’ and for councillors to question the safety of healthcare being provided by the trust.”
