A man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of two Thirsk teenagers.

Luke Ridley, of Topcliffe Road, Sowerby, changed his plead guilty on the day his trial was due to start at Teesside Crown Court today.

On March 7, 2018, George Thomas Turner and Mason Pearson, who were travelling in a Volkswagen Bora, died after their car collided with a Ford Focus on the A61 between Busby Stoop and Carlton Miniott in North Yorkshire.

The driver and passengers of the Ford Focus, a 27-year-old man, 24-year-old woman, their three-year-old daughter and six-month-old baby had been taken to hospital, but were all discharged.

A further two passengers in the Bora, an 18-year-old man and 17-year-old boy, were taken to hospital in a critical condition, but also later discharged.

At an earlier hearing at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court, Ridley, who was driving the Bora, originally pleaded not guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and five counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

However, he changed his pleas to guilty today.

A second man, William James Corser, 18, of St Mary’s Walk, Thirsk, also changed his plea to guilty to a charge of dangerous driving. He had previously denied the charge.

Corser was driving in convoy with Ridley when the crash happened.

They will be sentenced on July 30.
